Washington: The memory of the horrific terrorist attack in Mumbai still sends chills down the spine. In that incident, Tahawwur Rana, who was convicted, has been approved by U.S. President Donald Trump for extradition to India. It is noteworthy that this announcement came during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States. “We are extraditing the most dangerous person involved in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack to India,” Trump told reporters.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his happiness over the announcement. He thanked Trump for speeding up the process of extraditing the Mumbai terror attack criminal to India. Tahawwur Rana is a Canadian national of Pakistani origin. He was a key conspirator in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. He is currently serving a sentence in a Los Angeles prison. India has been fighting for his extradition for some time. Challenging this, Rana approached several federal courts, but the courts rejected his request. He also faced failure in the U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco.

As a final attempt, on November 13 last year, he filed a writ petition in the U.S. Supreme Court. In response, the U.S. government submitted a 20-page affidavit requesting the court to dismiss the petition. After reviewing this, the Supreme Court rejected Rana’s petition. This cleared the way for his extradition to India. Recently, Trump made the announcement regarding Rana’s extradition, so there are possibilities that he may be extradited to India in a few months.
