South Africa would have played in Dubai if India had lost their game. But India won, which meant South Africa had to return to Pakistan to play against New Zealand in Lahore. 

So, after just 18 hours, the South Africans were back on a plane, heading back to Pakistan!

What Did They Do in Dubai?

Dubai is full of huge malls, tall buildings, and busy roads. With such limited time, the South African squad did their best to enjoy the trip. 

Some played night golf, some walked about, and many undoubtedly visited malls. One thing they didn’t do? Watch cricket!

“We didn’t use our 18 hours to watch cricket, but some of the coaches did,” Klaasen said with a smile.

Was It Tiring? Yes, But No Complaints!

Traveling between countries in such a short time can make anyone tired! Flying up and down so quickly can be harsh on the body. But Klaasen wasn’t upset. He knew this was part of the schedule, and complaining was no use.

“It was a crazy 18 hours,” he said, “but at least we got to stretch our legs and see something different.”

South Africa wasn’t the only team to take a quick trip. The Australian team also went to Dubai but ended up playing against India there.

Was It Fair?

Some people think India had an easier time because they didn’t have to travel. The entire tournament was planned so that India could stay in Dubai while other teams moved around. 

Pat Cummins and Rassie van der Dussen were among the players who felt that this was unjust, but Klaasen didn’t worry about it.

“To win this tournament, you have to beat two very good teams,” Klaasen said. “It doesn’t matter where you play.”

What’s Next for South Africa?

South Africa is back in Pakistan, ready to take on New Zealand in the semifinal. If they win, their final match will be against Australia in Lahore or India in Dubai. No matter where they play, they must perform their best to win the Champions Trophy!
