Neelam Shinde, a student from Satara district of Maharashtra, met with a horrific road accident while going to the US for higher studies. In California, another car hit the car she was travelling in at high speed. Doctors said that Neelam 's legs and arms were broken in the accident and she went into a coma due to severe head injuries. Although the accident happened on February 14, Neelam's parents were informed about this on February 16. Her father Tanaji Shinde said that they had applied for a visa to visit their daughter in the US, but the visa has not been granted yet and the delay is causing them great distress. In this situation, they sought help from Member of Parliament ( MP) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) Supriya Sule . Supriya Sule brought this matter to the notice of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar through her Twitter (ex) account. "Neelam Shinde was seriously injured in an accident in the USA and is undergoing treatment in a hospital. "Her father urgently needs to go to America. I request the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy to grant him a visa immediately," she posted.
Government response
National media reports have revealed that the central government has responded to the matter and is in talks with US authorities to grant emergency travel permission to Neelam's father. The US section of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has reportedly brought the matter to the notice of the government there.
Neelam Shinde went to America four years ago for higher education.
